I was at dinner last night as we were on the subject of Kenya and a current brochure that tries around to raise funds for a school in Busia, Western Kenya, building had been sent arrived. One of the men at the table who had read the brochure asks a very interesting question. He said: “I do not denigrate it, but the kids happy in the pictures from?”
First, I do not say that anyway to criticize that person. I congratulate him for his honesty and I’m glad he said what he did, because it is a very deep, somewhat, what I would call throws – the history of Africa.
For most people, especially those who have never visited the African continent, the word is associated with various negative images. Hunger, poverty, war, genocide. If a country in Africa, he always makes the news is a bad thing, because what has happened. The images we see starving African children or young men wielding guns and machetes, or a mother in tears because they just lost another child. Thus, Africa is a place of suffering and sorrow. This story is not a positive experience.
But if and when you travel to a country in Africa, I predict that you have a completely different story. The main reason I started kenya works and why I think so much is because I firmly believe that so many people I met in Kenya. Take the orphanage in Busia as an example. So many children there have had a terrible life. Many were abused, lost her parents and siblings of AIDS and other diseases and usually manage to trouble. But I’ve never been to a place where I had more luck, laughter and love.
Also during my time in Nakuru, I met so many young men and women who struggle daily to survive. But they were always laughing and joking with me and were a pleasure to be here. There is real power in Kenya among young people to change their lives and their country better, and this disc is contagious.
Now I do not know that this is a cliché story about “how all Africans have no money, but they are happy,” because it’s cheap. I just want to point out that the history of Africa in the minds of many people wrong. It’s not their fault, and I certainly do not blame. In fact’m sure I felt like this before I’m first visit to Kenya when I was 18 But Africa is a continent with great potential, where people are on a daily basis is actively looking for ways to make their lives and that of their community better.
The world understand that after the Second World War and the “end of Empire. During this time there was great hope that Africa may we store it in some way. The world has seen so much potential on the continent. Philosophically, politically, economically, culturally, there was an excitement about what he would do. hope in the past 60 years, however, and the excitement that has gradually disappeared. Africans have come to be regarded as victims. Passive receiver waits for the next disaster to beat.
This vision must and will change. Now more than ever to unite the continent of Africa to influence their realities and to determine their own future, and we hope to gradually change our African history.
